As any of you who have been following TripsWithKevin for a while know, I like to exercise when I am on vacation.  I originally had no plan to write this entry, but it occurred to me that this is travel related and something I like about Tampa.  So, here you go…

I joined Orangetheory Fitness earlier this year and it has been a great fit for my schedule and exercise needs.  Others have written extensively about this and there is an excellent Reddit community that can cover all of the explanations and descriptions of what happens in an Orangetheory class.

My focus is solely on the experience at the Channelside location in the Channelside neighborhood of downtown Tampa (Florida).  This was the third studio that I have visited but my first on vacation.  I was in Tampa to celebrate Thanksgiving and was thrilled to have this structured form of exercise so easily available.  Even if you aren’t a member you can take one free class if you email them.  They will (of course) hope that you join after, but you do not have to in order to workout that day.

How to you signup for an Orangetheory class while on vacation?

Recently the new app (it’s not really new anymore) has allowed you to book at any studio.  For us, we knew what days we wanted to book our classes way in advance and didn’t want to miss out, so we emailed the studio directly and were able to get into classes more than the 28 days maximum that is typical.  I was booked for the day before Thanksgiving and the day after.

I love that this orange bike is out front of the studio!

I love my home studio, but the front desk at this location was super welcoming.  We were greeted with big smiles and they couldn’t have been nicer as they explained where everything was in the studio and all the other location specific information.  They even checked us in without us asking.

The classes themselves were great.  Both coaches were enthusiastic and knowledgeable.  I was especially impressed by Coach Michael and will try to take one of his classes next time I am in town (he also works at the St. Pete location apparently).  The studio itself is not as large as some, but everything worked fine.  The rowers are in the middle of a square room with the treadmills against the walls.  The floor stations are against the windows that you can see in the picture above.

I am looking forward to my next chance to visit!
